Get to Know Project Lead Brandon Ford

Brandon Ford
Project Lead

Start by telling everyone about yourself:

Hi everyone! My name’s Brandon Ford. I grew up in central Iowa, graduating from Roland-Story High School. After a while I moved to Nevada, where I got my bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Nevada-Reno. It was during my time in Reno that I met my wife, Marissa.

Getting sick of being homesick, we moved back to Iowa to be closer to family and start one of our own.  Fast forward almost five years later and we live in Pella, IA, have a daughter Alina, and two very spoiled dogs!

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Most of my time is spent either cooking in the kitchen, being a dad, or wrangling the two dogs.  When I do get some free time, I love watching sports, particularly football and MMA.  Other than that, you can probably find me failing spectacularly at videogames or reading a book.

What have you enjoyed about Visionary so far?

The people here are simply fantastic. Not only are they extremely open and welcoming, but they are also happy to help someone learn and share the vast amount of knowledge they have. Also, the artwork in the office is cool and fun to look at.

I got my master’s in business analytics from the University of Iowa a couple of years ago and love applying those skills to the projects we work on.

What is your favorite place to eat in Des Moines?

Tasty Tacos is always a must. Their flour tacos are outstanding.

What is your favorite season and why?

My favorite season is spring, when the weather stops being mind-numbingly cold, and we can put the jackets away. Plus, rainy Saturday mornings are the best.

What is the best book or blog you’ve read lately?

I’m always reading something, but the book that currently has my attention is “Gods, Graves, and Scholars,” about the history of archaeology told with some narrative flair. It’s very interesting to learn how the entire practice and profession of archaeology came about.

What is something you could not go one day without?

MMA news! Whether it it’s articles online, podcasts, or watching an event, I can’t seem to go a day without getting my fix of MMA.

Words to live by:

Expect progress, not perfection.

What are you loving at the moment?

I just picked up a new gaming PC, so I am loving getting into some new games like Tropico, City Skylines, and Rimworld!
